Megan Thee Stallion, the renowned singer and rapper, has opened up about her experience as a survivor following the shooting incident involving Tory Lanez, a fellow rapper and former friend.
In an essay published in Elle, she addressed the racist and sexist reactions she faced following her shooting in July 2020.
After the trial in December 2022, in which Lanez was found guilty on three felony counts, Megan has reflected on the impact of the case on her mental health and the support she received from fans and fellow artists.
In a heartfelt essay published in Elle, Megan, whose legal name is Megan Pete, discussed how she has faced harassment, conspiracy theories, and ridicule from some of her peers in the music industry.
Despite the pain and humiliation, she persevered and focused on her music and performances. Megan had initially wanted to keep the incident private, but when Lanez went public with the story, everything changed.
The Houston-raised singer has been working on her healing process, taking time off from social media and spending time with her dogs and close friends.

Megan’s essay also highlighted the challenges faced by women, particularly Black women, when they speak out against their attackers.
She emphasized the need for society to create safer environments for women to come forward without fear of retaliation and to provide stronger resources for women to recover from traumatic experiences.
Expressing gratitude to her fans, whom she refers to as “the Hotties,” Megan acknowledged the support she received from those who rallied around her and used their voices on her behalf. She also offered words of encouragement to other survivors, reminding them that they matter, are loved, and are not defined by their trauma.
Now in a happier place, Megan is still working on healing, coping with anxiety, and learning to set boundaries with the people she allows into her life.
She has started journaling as a way to process her thoughts and emotions, and prayer has also played a therapeutic role in her journey.
As a survivor, Megan is embracing the highs and lows of her experience and is excited to return to her music career, exploring new songs and sounds.
She hopes her story will inspire others and serve as a testament to the resilience of those who have endured unimaginable trauma.
